For some, lipstick is considered a staple item in their overflowing makeup kit. Let’s face it, a bit of lippy works wonders if we’re feeling a bit down or drab. Studies have shown that lipstick sales tend to rise during gloomy or rainy days, which says a lot about how a slick of colour makes us feel. Even if you haven’t got much time to put your makeup on, a coat of lipstick gives the face an instant lift and pop of colour. In fact, 80% of women regularly wear lipstick and over 25% won’t leave house without it! Whether it’s a glamorous red lip or a natural nude, lipstick can give you a made up look with very little effort.
But maybe you’re tired of reapplying your lipstick every 30 minutes or so. Or the fact that your favourite lipstick is severely drying out your lips or rubbing off on your pearly whites is leaving you a little self-conscious. Perhaps you have lost colour and definition around your lips and need to apply colour to disguise this, or you use lipstick to help disguise lips which are uneven or asymmetrical. If any of the above rings true, a lip treatment may be the perfect solution for you. It’s also a great alternative to fillers if you want to create the illusion of fullness without the risk of the dreaded ‘trout pout”!
A permanent lip treatment begins with a consultation to determine the reasons why you would like the procedure and what you would like to achieve from it. Then the exciting part – your permanent makeup artist will talk to you about what colours are available. You can choose from the most subtle and natural of shades to the most vibrant – it depends entirely on your personal taste and personality. Then it’s time to draw your shape. During a lip treatment with us, Karen Betts and our Elite Artists work with your own natural contours as much as possible, but also have the skill and ability to add a bit of a ‘lift’ to create more fullness if required. For correction or medical work they will listen to your requirements and give their advice in order to achieve the best outcome for your personal needs and facial features.
Once you are both happy and have agreed on the design and colour it’s time to tattoo! The process is very gentle and they will apply topical anaesthetic throughout the treatment to minimise any discomfort. Of course, everyone’s pain threshold is different, but some clients have been known to take a little nap for the duration! We kid you not.
After the treatment you should expect to experience a little bit of swelling. This is because is completely normal due to the lips being a very vascular area. This swelling typically lasts for around 24 hours. Most clients don’t really mind it, and once the swelling has subsided, the lips will begin to heal. We suggest a little bit of downtime for 3-4 days to accommodate the healing process which consists of some scabbing, which we promise will fall away. Once this has happened you will be left with beautifully coloured, perfectly contoured lips all day, every day! This is what is known in the industry as the ‘healed’ result. Whereas the lip colour straight after treatment will be accentuated and bright, the colour does fade by up to 60%, and you will need a retouch as a per the normal procedure for permanent makeup treatments 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure, to ensure you get the optimum results.
