You may have heard through the grapevine about a ‘new’ permanent makeup treatment that’s sweeping the internet; Microblading. To put it simply, this treatment is an eyebrow tattooing technique uses the finest ‘hair strokes’ to create the most natural effect and has been around for many years before it increased popularity recently.
We’re here to give you all the facts about Microblading before you pick up the phone to book your appointment.
FACT > Initially known as eyebrow embroidery
Embroidery is certainly a fitting term to Microblading! Each hair stroke is applied meticulously one by one using a manual hand held tool. It’s a lengthy process and takes around 90 minutes to complete (you can’t rush perfect brows!), but the jaw dropping looks that can be created using this technique are so realistic, no one would ever know you’ve had anything done!
FACT > It really isn’t painful
A common misconception is that this kind of treatment is very painful. It’s worth pointing out that everyone has a different pain threshold but, the vast majority of clients who have had this treatment report that there was little or no pain and say it was just a little uncomfortable rather than painful. In fact, some clients even fall asleep during the procedure. Before every treatment though, a gentle numbing cream will be applied to relieve any discomfort you may experience, but it really is unlikely.
FACT > It falls in the Cosmetic Tattooing category
Pigment is placed under the upper layers of the skin, so essentially the procedure is a cosmetic tattoo. This means no more bleary-eyed mornings spent pencilling in eyebrows and making a pig’s ear of the whole situation. After all, no one wants uneven brows! For the best results, a colour boost is required 12-18 months after the treatment to keep your brows looking fresh. It’s not entirely maintenance free, but it’s a very low maintenance procedure that will make sure your brows stay put all day, every day.
FACT > It’s the most natural form of permanent cosmetics yet
The treatment is not a ‘one size fits all’ solution. With any great Permanent Makeup artist, a truly bespoke set of eyebrows will be created following the natural colouring and contours of the face. Eyebrow hairs never flow in the same direction, therefore strokes of different lengths and directions will be created to give you a hyper-realistic finish. Pigments will also be matched and expertly mixed to counteract any warm or cool tones in your skin for a natural result that compliments your face.
FACT > Research is vital
Shop around and make sure the artist you choose has been trained to the highest standard and does great work that you can trust and love. Never be afraid of asking for their portfolio so you can see their standard of work, because seeing a variety of brows will give you an idea of how flexible and creative they are. When it comes to cost it really does depend on the level of experience that you are getting, typically Microblading your eyebrows starts around the £450 mark for a highly-trained artist.
